There is a reason other than hunger why Ekaette stole a cut of meat from the pot. An obvious guess would be gluttony but a sense of accomplishment is always a reason. Yes, in context meat is luxury, adds prestige to the top of whatever meal it is you are having. It is the franchise in the soup, the ticket seller, the prize fighter, and the District of Columbus in our freaking Washington. What glory is there in a simple covert lick of soup? But a meat steal has all the badassness a domestic graft could have. A careful lift of the lid and a soundless return of the cover is attained not after a few attempts.
There is a reason other than hate why people killed Jews in World War Hitler. What was with all that lust for blood? But would you say 'vielen dank' when people bomb your homes and kill your loved ones. First the spill of blood, then vengeance takes a pound of flesh, and in avenging the avenger we brake some bones too. Soon, all men go mad and those who wouldn't hurt a fly now cry out for blood. Yes, there were those who wouldn't have given a damn about 'Hiel Hitler' and his conspicuous moustache but needing to stay alive had to kill.
There is a reason other than duty why the caged bird sings. Yellow and beautiful it sits upon that lone branch hanging across that small cage, a few grains litter the floor and a few white shits too, but somehow in this gloom, our bird sings. Do I now think it has so much known its pain that it now enjoys it? Do I think the birdsong is a praise or a dirge? Do I think the canary might have something to say? Can't really say what but would say yes that there is a reason other than duty why the caged bird sings.
There is a reason other than silly why the Urukhai fight without plans. Yes, their IQ is so low it lives underground and to reason with them you literally have to dig deep. But what if they know better than to torture the mind? Death would still come to all, to the loser at war as well as to the winner. What if pain is so memorable that soon you begin to miss it, and pleasure so fleeting that you soon forget it? What if there is a reason other than gravity why we are stuck on Earth? What if the Martians are so invincible that they are invisible? What if there is a reason other than pride why the lion fights for his pride? What if there is a reason other than love why he loves you? And if there is a reason other than the reason what if we never get to know it?
